The wedding reception is typically a bit less formal than the wedding itself, and the fashion choices can often reflect this circumstance.

The beautiful thing about the wedding reception, contrary to the beliefs of many, may not actually be the beautiful gents and ladies in attendance nor the beer or wine. Rather, the ability to remove one's suit jacket in favour of something a little more comfortable and casual may rank quite highly on the list, particularly for men!

Lose the Suit Jacket and Hit the Dance Floor!

Most men take the opportunity to remove their suit jackets during the reception, due to either the summer heat or a lack of air-conditioning at the location where the get together is taking place. This means that it is more important than ever to choose a well co-ordinated dress shirt and pants combination!

The classic white dress shirt with black slacks – either plain or pinstriped – is most likely the easiest choice to abide by. Not only is it a typically inexpensive combo (inexpensive department store brands of dress shirts always offer business white, blue, and black as their flagship colours) but it will reflect the occasion quite well. Any tie works well with white, so matching colours will not be a problem.

For those who are attendees rather than with the groomsmen, light sweaters may also be appropriate when worn with a nice pair of dress jeans, casual pants, or corduroys.

Casual Summer Weddings and Receptions, Casual Summer Wedding Wardrobes

Casual summer weddings are becoming much more commonplace in contemporary society, with many disdaining the hot woolen suits and extremely expensive wedding dresses in favour of a more laid-back ceremony and reception.

In these instances, it is always best to consider the temperature above all. Linen collared casual shirts are an excellent choice that straddle the fine line between ultimately too casual (t-shirts) or overly formal (long-sleeved dress shirts). Linen is also the best choice from a comfort perspective, as it is the most breathable commercial fabric available in most cases and does not cause extreme perspiration.

As for footwear, sandals may or may not be appropriate, but Sanuk sidewalk surfers most certainly might be. Provided in any number of colour and fabric combinations (and allowing one to wear them sans socks, a big plus in terms of the visual aesthetic as well as in terms of comfort), Sanuk footwear is not only fashionable but also extremely versatile in the summer months.
