Andrew Marc has been a staple in the fashion industry for quite some time, one simply has to thumb through the latest copy of anything from Vogue and GQ to the superb Harry magazine to see the prevalence of their advertising, and the influence of their design. Andrew Marc was founded in 1981 by Andrew Marc Schwartz himself, although Suzanne Schwartz leads much of the design process today – a design that is easily the finest that can be offered in leather jackets and many other garments.

The Leather

The star of the current Andrew Marc collection – and indeed likely any given collection from this design house – is their fabulous line of leather garments, both for men and women. Of particular note in this season's leather collection would be the very modern “Stetson” – a slick topcoat that looks very edgy and aggressive. This particular leather topcoat would look extremely nice on taller, slimmer men given the rather long cut of the sleeve and the very tapered fit of the jacket.

Another exceptional model on sale for fall and winter of 2008 would be the “Trent”, a more casual look with a beautiful fur-lined lapel. A substantially shorter cut than the Stetson, the Trent offers a look that one could wear with near anything, in almost any circumstance without overdoing it.

For a very classy and businesslike approach to leather, one might consider the “Preston” design from Andrew Marc. A glossy black/carbon exterior colour with rabbit fur lining and a very conservative, traditional cut in medium length. Once again, perhaps not as aggressive as the Stetson or as laid back as the Trent, the Preston is an excellent choice for the man who wants class with a bit of an edge – the Preston presents authority and taste that will endure for many seasons to come.

The Rest

While Andrew Marc may offer the very best of the world's designs when it comes to leather garments, one should definitely not look down one's nose at the other productions coming from this design house.

In this fall and winter collection, the standout in this category is most definitely the “Marcus”; the peacoat look has been persistently gaining ground on more casual coats, and this example is no different. Featuring a beautiful widely cut notch lapel and a double breasted design, this coat definitely carries a bit of European flair and will stand up very well in terms of being fashionable in coming years.

A second choice might be the more casual and youthful looking “Harper”, a half coat that is likely a better choice for university students and young professionals – a coat that the ladies will love and won't look too out of place at the pub or walking down a crowded street. This particular garment is very slimming, the stand up collar also offers a trendy alternative to the somewhat more staid lapels that are traditionally found on wool topcoats and other fall and winter garments.

The Word

Andrew Marc has a reputation for quality, style, and increasing profits reflect a commitment to just that. Aggressive marketing and extremely attractive advertisements combined with a tasteful and very modern fashion portfolio means that Andrew Marc is one of the premier design houses, if not the very best, when it comes to men's outerwear.
